Medical Research Data Management - Architectural Viewpoints - Part 3

Image
In my previous blogs, I focussed on detailing the motivation and the strategy adopted to deliver a singular data repository. The approach was to deliver a data repository that would satisfy the twin objective of Evolving the organisation into a data-driven healthcare organisation. Modernizing and integrating new platforms rather than replacing old ones. Central to the success of the architectural design is the understanding and acumen required in modelling the research domain. It becomes critical that we understand how medical research is classified and managed into different themes and research speciality groups.  Below diagram shows how the research data management process is associated with different research functions and speciality groups. Although not complete, I have tried to include those research services of the NHIR entity that was necessary to deliver an exemplar ( diabetes data product). The singular repository ought to have the capability...

My previous blog   Research Data Management - Architectural Viewpoints - Part 1  followed the Togaf process and developed the strategic capabilities for Research data management strategy and  A single repository data management strategy.  In this blog, I will focus on each of the strategic capability and how it aligns with the strategic course of action, taken to meet clinical motivational goals and requirements. The two strategic capabilities complement each other to provide rapid data exploration, rapid testing and continuous integration for clinical research. Research Data Management Capability The research data management capability realises the following primary goals for the research entity Effective planning and operations to share research data Enable targeted advance research and creating better opportunities for research data re-use Seamless partnership and engagement with other research partners Each of the goals is...

This is a series of blogs about research data management which I have been working on for the past few years. I thought of sharing my experience, thinking it would be useful to show the features of Archemate, a Togaf based enterprise architecture modelling tool. Although the team I work with use a different tool, I have used Archemate.  I would explain my approach to designing a medical research data management system within the enterprise architectural context using Archemate modelling tool. The research carried out is solely focussed on healthcare data. I would like to mention, whenever I refer to research data management, I intend to mean as healthcare research data management. Situation Analysis Effective Medicinal Research Facilitation  The public health service in the UK has developed a research-oriented approach to patient care to advance its care objectives.  It has invested public funds on different entities responsible to meet different ...
